Why vegan perfume matters — and why it should smell extraordinary

Choosing a vegan perfume used to mean accepting a trade-off. Fewer ingredients. Less complexity. Less soul. At Le Jardin Retrouvé (meaning “The Rediscovered Garden”), we never accepted that compromise — because it never needed to exist.

Our entire collection of 14 eau de parfum creations is 100% vegan and third-party certified cruelty-free. No animal-derived ingredients. No animal testing. No exceptions.

These are not “clean” perfumes designed to tick a box. They are haute parfumerie creations made with 90 to 99 % natural origin ingredients, rooted in nearly fifty years of craft. Founded in 1975 by Yuri Gutsatz, Le Jardin Retrouvé was the world's first niche fragrance house. Today, Clara Feder and Michel Gutsatz continue that legacy — proving every day that ethical perfumery and olfactory excellence are the same thing.

What makes a perfume truly vegan and cruelty-free?

Not all “vegan” claims are equal. Here is what ours means:

  • No animal-derived ingredients — no musk from animals, no civet, no ambergris, no beeswax, no lanolin.
  • No animal testing — at any stage, by us or our suppliers.
  • Third-party certified — our vegan status is verified by an independent certifier, not self-declared.
  • 90 to 99 % natural origin ingredients — plant-derived, responsibly sourced.

We believe in transparency. When we say vegan and cruelty-free, it's not a label we put on for marketing — it's how we've always worked.

Slow Perfumery: ethical craft takes time

Our production protocol, created by Yuri Gutsatz, reflects the same patience we bring to every ethical choice:

  • 3 weeks of maturation — ingredients naturally merge into the concentrate.
  • 3 weeks of maceration in organic alcohol — the fragrance develops depth and character.

This is our Slow Perfumery. No shortcuts. No synthetic accelerants. Just time, care, and craft.
