OUR COMMITMENTS

No false promises: Authenticity & Transparency

Every environmental initiative taken by Le Jardin Retrouvé over its 50 years of existence has had a single goal: bringing its actions into line with its values.

Care for the planet and human well-being are at the very heart of the very notion of the Garden, the universal symbol at the origin of the brand.

Maxence Moutte in the laboratory, creating perfume

Here, authenticity is not an option.

All our fragrances are created by our two in-house perfumers: Yuri Gutsatz (1975) and, since 2018, Maxence Moutte.

We follow Yuri’s protocol: 3 weeks of maturation for the concentrate and 3 weeks of maceration in alcohol before bottling.

We source our concentrates from Givaudan – but the formulas belong to us (which allows us to obtain all the necessary certifications).

We ensure full transparency about the composition of our perfumes by listing the main natural and the main synthetic ingredients on every fragrance page.

In 2021, we decided to go beyond the IFRA regulatory standards of the industry and to remove any ingredients potentially harmful to the planet or to health. Our challenge? To preserve the olfactory beauty that built Le Jardin Retrouvé’s reputation.

We therefore replaced traditional alcohol with organic alcohol and eliminated three ingredients (showing that our formulas were already ahead of their time!): one potentially non-biodegradable ingredient, one potential endocrine disruptor, and one potential allergen.

After numerous trials – 17 for Sandalwood Sacré! – and the invaluable support of the composition house Givaudan, Maxence Moutte rose to the challenge: the fragrances shine as they always have, and the percentage of ingredients of natural origin in our perfumes now ranges between 90 and 99% (these percentages are indicated on each product page).

We have put the focus on sustainability across all our “containers”.

  • The bottles are made of glass.
  • The caps are made of Bakelite, produced by a French company certified Ecovadis Gold, with the lowest carbon footprint on the market. Bakelite is a resin that is 40% bio-based and 100% recyclable.
  • The labels are tested to be smudge-resistant so they can be kept for a very long time.
  • The outer cardboard boxes are FSC-certified.
  • The candle and diffuser containers are repurposed tableware, and therefore fully reusable.

Of course, there is always room to do better and more, and we are constantly working on it!

We are committed to exploring ways to make a real difference for our environment – such as being a member of 1% for the Planet – and we know that you are on board with us every step of the way.

That’s why, from now on, when you place an order, you will see a new option at checkout.

For just €0.23, we can offset the carbon footprint of your parcel together.

How does it work?

Of the €0.23 you choose to give each time you buy, 10% is contributed by us, so that we are also helping. The amount then goes to fund innovative companies that remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and/or store it.

This amazing initiative, developed and managed by Shopify – the largest platform enabling millions of people to shop online – will have a truly positive impact on the environment, the oceans, and our planet as a whole.

We don’t just create perfumes that take care of you… we seize every opportunity to take care of our planet, and we warmly thank you for giving us a hand.

"In the end, we decided to follow my father's vision:

to break the rules of perfumery.

As a small family brand, we try, day after day, to respect the environment and move forward one step at a time."

Our Limoges porcelain pots are reusable

Our creative director, Clara Feder, playfully repurposed a tableware set to create candles and diffusers.

She chose Limoges porcelain and raw Jura beechwood lids for their beauty and their wonderfully reusable nature.

1) Once the candle is finished (after 50 hours), place the bowl in the freezer for one hour, then turn it over. The wax, now solidified, will slip out on its own. And you’re done!

2) You now have an adorable Limoges porcelain cup with endless uses. It is dishwasher- and microwave-safe. The inside color changes depending on the scent.

Once all the liquid in the diffuser has been used up – after around three months – you can reuse your porcelain cup in countless ways. It is dishwasher- and microwave-safe.

Since each scent has its own color, you can turn them into a festive table set you’ll be proud to show off.

We are a small family business, and transparency is at the heart of everything we do.

From making our products to shipping them, we tell you everything, always. No secrets, no pretense.
