Did you say VIOLETTE KEW?

Violette Kew is a mysterious Eau de Parfum. Innocent, pure and delicate in appearance, it quickly reveals itself to be very sensual, milky, almost pheromonal, ‘on edge’.

It is unisex and perfect for wearing at dusk, spreading its powerful charm throughout the evening.

It will transport you to the Kew Gardens, where refined visitors stroll in their velvet clothes, their manners polite and their emotions hidden but intense.

Violette Kew has a light, sparkling gourmand side that revives childhood memories with its top notes of violet and cardamom, its heart of violet and violet leaves, while the base notes of sandalwood and cumin give it a mysterious and captivating depth.

Scientific research shows that this eau de parfum promotes a feeling of fulfilment.

DETAILS ABOUT KEW GARDENS

Kew Gardens (Royal Botanic Gardens) was established in 1759 with the collection of one of the world's most impressive selections of rare, unusual and interesting botanical specimens.

Today, it is a leading centre for botanical research and conservation efforts, protecting over 80,000 living plants and thousands of specimens preserved in its extensive greenhouse collections.

They have also inspired literary and artistic works, notably by Virginia Woolf and Marianne North.

It was this idea of having emerged long ago and being dedicated to conservation, collaboration and education that struck a chord with Le Jardin Retrouvé, as it is a set of values that align so closely with our own – sustainability, accessibility and inclusion. Furthermore, as our fragrances allow those who wear them to access both physical gardens and emotional inner gardens, Kew Gardens was the natural choice for Violette Kew.

IN CONVERSATION WITH MAXENCE MOUTTE

At Le Jardin Retrouvé, we are lucky to have our own in‑house perfumer. Maxence Moutte has taken over from our founder, Yuri Gutsatz, and we wanted to find out a little more about his new creation… the exquisite Violette Kew.

Where did the original idea for Violette Kew come from?

A year ago, during the launch of my second perfume for Le Jardin Retrouvé, someone in the room asked me: “Which ingredient would you like to work with next?”. I instantly replied: “Violet”. Clara and Michel immediately gave me the green light and I started gathering ideas, trends and also creating my first trials.

What does the smell of violet mean to you?

For me, violet is first and foremost about memories of family walks. When I was a child, my parents used to take us to pick them in the park of the Château de Suze la Rousse, in the south of the Drôme. I can still feel the childhood excitement of spotting these lovely little flowers, picking them, arranging them and above all smelling their delicate scent, as if we had found a treasure.

Had you already worked with violet?

As a perfumer, I have noticed that violet is rarely used in perfumery and, in my opinion, is not highlighted enough. Violet was also one of the ingredients in the palette of Yuri Gutsatz, the founder of Le Jardin Retrouvé, which he used in his moving Cuir de Russie.

Which elements did you add to enhance the violet scent?

To bring out the best in my violet, and also because Yuri lived in India for many years, I worked with sandalwood, cumin and cardamom to give Violette Kew all its depth.

What result did you want to achieve with Violette Kew?

My intention with this work was to create a deceptively innocent violet: delicate and discreet on the surface, yet ultimately very carnal, with sensual, milky, almost “pheromonal”, very “skin‑close” effects from the cumin combined with sandalwood.

WHY DID WE CHOOSE KEW GARDENS?

Each of our fragrances has its own inspirational garden, as our name is ‘Le Jardin Retrouvé’ (The Garden Rediscovered). To complement our Violet fragrance, we chose Kew Gardens in London. These gardens, founded in 1759, are both rooted in the past and so modern – even avant-garde in terms of species preservation – that they are perfectly in tune with Le Jardin Retrouvé on an ethical, historical and aesthetic level.
