DID YOU SAY ORIENTAL SANS SOUCI?

Oriental Sans Souci is an Eau de Parfum combining bergamot, jasmine and precious resins. A fragrance built in chiaroscuro, which means a balance of light and shade, its luminous opening of citrus notes falls onto an opulent floral heart before finally coming to rest on a balsam and resinous background.

Yuri’s lost perfume, the fragrance transports us to an imaginary east, filled with scents and rare flowers.

Oriental Sans Souci was created by Yuri Gutsatz in 1963, but remained unreleased… until now!

The story of Oriental sans soui

1963: Oriental Sans Souci was created in a year that saw history made. John F. Kennedy delivered his famous Civil Rights Speech, after the powerful Woolworth’s Sit-Ins earlier in the year, and it was also the start of Beatlemania with the launch of their first album “Please Please Me”.

"Oriental Sans Souci is a complex fragrance which changes every time we test it, revealing new facets.”

Nicola Thomas, The Sniff

Oriental Sans Souci was one of thousands of formulas that Yuri worked on his lifetime, but which weren’t released at the time. All of them are carefully recorded in the archives, just waiting to be reborn.

Oriental Sans Souci coming back to life

In 2017, Michel and his wife, the artist and writer Clara Feder, nurtured Le Jardin Retrouvé back to life, including a carefully curated selection of seven of Yuri’s fragrances. The response was so enthusiastic that they came up with an idea that had never been done before. They asked their online community to choose which of Yuri’s fragrances to bring back to life next.

Michel and Clara had hundreds of Yuri's meticulously recorded formulas and chose four to send out in a small discovery package of samples, labeled only with a colored dot. As the results came in, Oriental Sans Souci was the stand-out winner with 48% of the vote. Originally launched as a limited edition, it now has a permanent home in the collection.

“Oriental Sans Souci is unencumbered by trends and fads, and is the kind of scent no longer seen on modern beauty counters - much to the frustration of vintage perfume lovers.”

Samantha Scriven, Fragrantica

Clara Feder's inspired text on ORIENTAL SANS SOUCI: Sans Souci garden, Potsdam, Germany

Perhaps you have loved this garden forever. Timeless alleys of the 18th century lead you to the Chinese Pavilion, a symbol of the fantasies of this era. The echo of your steps reverberates sounds of the past, recalling intimate memories, filled with an addictive sweetness. The scent of bergamot, vanilla, amber, patchouli, tonka bean, and neroli mingle in a comforting obsession. The perfect balance between East and West embraces your heart.
