November 2016 / BWW Fashion World : Le Jardin Retrouve Revives Yuri Gutsatz Perfume Tradition

By Clara Feder 1 years ago No comments
BWW Fashion World : Le Jardin Retrouve Revives Yuri Gutsatz Perfume Tradition Yuri Gutsatz. The man who legendarily perfumed the Paris Opera. In Paris, scentmakers are remembered long after their scents are gone. But the Gutsatz family, in particular Michel Gutsatz, is reviving Yuri's perfume tradition in Le Jardin Retrouve, a 7-scent collection of Yuri's 30 great fragrances. I understand that the intent is to release others later. Yuri Gutsatz was born in St Petersburg in 1914 but made his way to France in 1933. Working in both Paris and Bombay (which helped him create the legendary Sandalwood Sacre), he was Vice President of the French Perfumers' Society for several years. Perhaps most importantly, he helped create the Osmotheque, France's "library" of perfumes, but he was also a perfume critic, and a strong believer that creative freedom was as necessary for the perfumer as for the writer or actor.

November 2016 / Cafleurebon writes about Le Jardin Retrouvé and all our fragrances New Fragrance Reviews: Le Jardin Retrouvé (Yuri Gutsatz) Sandalwood Sacré, Tubéreuse Trianon, Cuir de Russie & Citron Boboli + Le Nécessaire Draw "Le Jardin Retrouvé, (roughly translated the garden refound) the first maison de niche was founded in 1975 (a year before Jean Laporte’s L’Artisan Parfumeur) by Yuri Gutsatz and has a storied past steeped in fragrance history. I was amazed to learn that in 1952, M. Maurice Lehmann, former director of the Opera de Paris, asked M. Gursatz to perfume the opera house for a sequence of Rameau’s Les Indes Galantes (and I thought ambient scenting was recent). Multicultural and a great scholar, Yuri Gutsatz was Vice President of the Société Française des Parfumeurs (French Perfumers’ Society), and like his predecessor, Edmond Roudnitska, he advocated the autonomy of the perfume as creator. Yuri Gutsatz worked with Jean Kerléo and other perfumers of that time to lay the foundation of the Osmothèque,(now headed by Madame Patricia de Nicolai) the library of perfumes that was established in 1990."

The Yuri Gutsatz' vision in Le Monde

For Patrick Saint-Yves, President of the French Perfumers Society (SFP), "this is like deny the creative act, like ignore an intellectual creation process, which may last from several months to a number of years. In France, regret the user, professional noses haven't an official status. This is the wireless security part of our heritage." 'Perfumer, your name is no one' like Yuri Gutsatz wrote 20 years ago.

September 2009 / Fragrance : the History of Yuri Gutsatz

By Clara Feder 1 years ago No comments

Article in Frangrance about the history of Le Jardin Retrouvé : "Fragrance Bouquet presents Le Jardin Retrouvé (part1)".

" In 1975, disillusioned with the state of perfumery, Gutstatz founded his own company, Le Jardin Retrouve. Essentially, Gutsatz built a small perfume brand based on ideals, love and dedication to perfumery and in interest of following his own instinct instead of briefs motivated by money, at a time when the public had yet no notion of "niche" [...] Justifiably, his son David Gutsatz considers his father as the 'founder' of what we now perceive as niche perfumery."
